The Belanger family in Slovakia – Prayer letter December 2023-January 2024

Celebrate what happened recently!

Our youthgroup’s Christmas is just around the corner like yours, we will celebrate with young people on Saturday December 23. But, first of all, a little look back at what happened in the last few weeks. We have completed our study series on 1 John and will be studying Jochebed, Miriam, and Deborah between now and Christmas. We will continue, in January, with Ruth, Anne, Esther, Mary and Priscilla. These women are very beautiful examples of faith put into practice on a daily basis for all our young people, the true lasting beauty to be sought. In addition, our girls will have the opportunity to learn what made these as women according to God in order to become one in turn. In addition to setting an example for their lives, guys will be able to see what they should primarily look for in a future wife.

We are grateful to have had, on a regular basis, almost all the young people we spoke to you about in our last letter. Only Nikolka was present more sporadically. It was with joy to welcome Veronika, a friend of Térezka who began to attend the youth following our prayers.

Viktoria and Sémir's father is gradually getting better physically, although he regularly needs injections. His spiritual state still remains a request.

Our dear Lubka is experiencing difficult weeks/months, going through certain health problems and academic difficulties. We pray for her and try to support her as best we can. Slavik, her big brother, seems to be doing well. It is obvious that God gave him a very special gift for singing and piano. Besides, we will have the pleasure of hearing him at the Christmas pageant. Our prayer is that he draws closer and closer to God and uses this gift for His glory.

Also, pray with us that another couple will be added to the Stará Túra youth ministry in the near future.

Celebrating His goodness this year!

My God is so good, he takes good care of me. This is a beautiful and true line from a hymn in French! Again this year, we were able to see God shower us with blessings in many ways. His compassions are new every morning (Lamentation 3:22-23).

And, they are also renewed every month. I like to share it often with people, we have been living every month for almost ten years by the grace of God in terms of our finances and everything else. Each of these approximately 120 months, He has provided for our needs by putting His work in Slovakia on the hearts of our brothers and sisters or by providing in another way. God has used you, as well as working behind the scenes in His way, to provide for our needs. Thanks to all of this, we would only be missing $9,810 in December to end the year with 100% of our support. Let us pray Him for this, and we will see how He responds to our intercessions in His perfect way and perfect time.

Celebrate what happened a long time ago!

Two weeks already and it will be Christmas, the celebration of the birth of the Savior to cleanse us from our sins by his perfect sacrifice on the cross. Of course, Christians don't just celebrate this on Christmas day. However, for many non-believers, this is the time of year when these things are a little less out of their minds. For others, it is the only time of the year when they come into closer contact with a Christian. This is why we must each and every one be ready to bear witness to Him who saved us and desires that none would perish. Of course, it is not a question of falling headlong onto our family members, nor of winning an argument  creating a most ankward situation. It is about showing that we are different, that there is something more in us, bearing witness to what God is doing. Let us use the principles of Colossians 4:5-6. Let us also be filled with love, as 1 John teaches us, a love for God and for those whom God loves tenderly.

Above all, let us pray because it is on our knees that the fight begins. Let us pray, continue to pray, for the salvation of our loved ones. Let us intercede to recognize the opportunities to be a witness for God in our words and actions.

Celebrate, even when it is broken!

Recently, we noticed an exhaust smell in the van. After an initial investigation, our mechanic said that the proximity of all the elements around the engine prevented him from seeing precisely the source of the leak. To locate and repair this problem, several parts will need to be disassembled. With these out of the way, and according to the maintenance schedule, it was presented to us as wise to proceed with the refurbishment of two components, to avoid a potential breakdown in the short/medium term which would require us to pay to take it all apart again.

The prognosis is a full week without a vehicle and a bill of 1000-1500eur (1500-2200$Can or 1100-1600US$).

But, praise the Lord :

  1. We didn't break down.
  2. Our garage ultimately helps us save money.
  3. This is our first major repair in four years.

Pray for no complications which would result in additional costs or extending the period without a vehicle. Let us also pray for God's financial provision in the face of this unforeseen event.

Celebrate in your/our home?

We all wish you a blessed time with your loved ones, a time when you can slow down and create memories with your parents, grandparents, children and grandchildren, to name just a few. Time passes so quickly, and we want to make it fruitful for the gospel, as well as for the crucial ministry God gives us in our homes. Let us invest wisely this extra time given to us during this Christmas period.

Thanks to everyone who prayed for Samuel, his first payment to Malta with JET next summer has been made. He continues to work to raise money for the following payments. It appears that Ezekiel's health problems are resurfacing, so we will schedule an appointment with the specialist soon.

We will celebrate this Christmas season by spending a multitude of beautiful, simple moments rejoicing as a family, whether cooking, talking/singing to our God, playing, or anything!

Happy New Year under the gaze of the Lord to each of you!

Philippe and Isabelle
