The Belanger family in Slovakia – Prayer letter February-March 2023

On your marks, get set, go!

After a last youth group on February 18, we left the ministry in the care of Andrej and Janči. Along with the teens, they will study the life of Joseph, a teenager who did not have it easy, but who remained faithful to God. Let us pray for the example that this may be for Nikolas, Lubka and Slavik. We also pray that other young people will join them on a regular basis during our absence.

Thanks to technology, we will be able to continue to support our leaders, whether it is by recording certain studies or by exchanging ideas for games, etc. Please keep these two fathers who lead the youth in your prayers. May the Lord give them confidence, love, and creativity!

Technology also allows us to stay in touch with the teenagers of the youth ministry. Let us pray together that despite the distance, our relationships can move forward through the tools available.

This is how we roll!

Our God is never late, and He always answers on time! A week before our arrival in Quebec, a brother in Christ offered their vehicle for our use during the first three weeks of our visits in Quebec. Praise God, and thank you for praying with us! We continued to put this need in the hands of God because, by mid-March, we had to find another vehicle for the rest of our time in the country. The day before we left for Canada, another brother in Christ contacted us, trying to help us. One thing lead to another, and it was arranged that this second brother would be able to lend us his vehicle until the end of June. As a matter of fact, God allowed it to happen just at the right time. We praise Him, and thank you all for praying for this particular need.

Where will we be next?

Thank the Lord, our itinerary to Quebec went well. Now begins another kind of journey. Here is our schedule until the end of April:

March

Sun 5 Chauveau Evangelical Church

Sun 12 New Horizon Church Beauport

Sun 19 Group Chr. Evan. Lotbiniere AM

Brethren Assembly St-Jean PM

Sun 26 Cap-de-la-Madeleine Brethren Assembly

April

Sun 2 St-Georges Baptist Church

Sun 9 Etchemins Baptist Church

Sun 16 Sorel Brethren Assembly

Sun 23 Evangelical Baptist Church Trois-Rivières

Sun 30 Evangelical Church Farnham

It is with great pleasure that we will be with you. We will be happy to take the opportunity to speak with you about Slovakia, our new church, the youth ministry and many other things. It goes without saying that we are available on days other than Sundays. Do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to meet with us during the week. Whether it's Sunday or some other time, we hope to see you!

Life goes on!

Even while traveling, school continues for the students and for the teacher. Before leaving, Isabelle and I spent hours preparing everything she would need for school for the four months we will be in Canada and the United States. We are grateful that our children will also have the opportunity to discover more about the geography and history of Quebec by having the opportunity to visit historic sites, museums, and libraries. What an enriching experience it will be for them to discover more fully the place from which they came from, by being there in person!

On the sidelines of youth ministry, I have spent the last eight weeks doing a youth ministry course and coming to grips with the basics of Greek. It seems very unexpected, but I was truly grateful to have Slovak and French in my pocket when it came time to learn Greek! After the break, I will only have two classes (eight weeks) left to complete this master’s degree that enriches what we can do for God.

Family and friends

Of course, it is a great joy to have the opportunity to spend time with our families and to be able to catch up with different friends as well. We thank the Lord for this privilege, as well as being able to stock up on French and English reading material for all of us at a minimal cost.

May the Lord bless you!

Why do a short-term mission trip? This is a question that we receive from time-to-time, so this seems like a good moment to address it!  First, to help missionaries. There are many things that teens can do to help churches and local ministries. Second, to share the Good News of the Gospel!  Often, residents of… Read More »JET Israel 2022 Report

Conflict and price hikes Until recently, the conflict in Ukraine had affected us little. However, deprived of its usual influx of Russian natural gas and oil, Slovakia is now increasingly affected. Diesel has been up 70% since January, currently selling at C$2.60/L (US$7.30 a gallon). This increase has, among other things, increased grocery prices.
